WD's exclusive WhisperDrive combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market. These algorithms also optimize the way a drive seeks for data, which significantly improves power consumption. So now silence (and longer battery life) is golden.WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long-term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.

"Tiny, Big Storage, Runs Cool & Whisper Quiet" 2009-09-28
By Paul (Plantation, FL)
Although this drive doesn't have the capacity of its larger cousins (3.5 inch drives) it sure does work great. It is extremely quiet, in fact almost silent, and also stays very cool. It runs fast and the build quality is top notch. I would recommend WDC to anybody who is considering any type of hard drive.

"Perfect drive for upgrading older Macbooks/Macbook Pros" 2009-09-26
By N. Hawkins (Chicago)
I picked this up to upgrade a friend's Macbook and it went off without a hitch. It was a simple procedure: get an external enclosure, plug the new 320gb drive in to it, dupe the drive via SuperDuper, and then replace the drive. The drive is super easy to replace (there are countless tutorials on Youtube). The only hard part is finding the weird hex drive screwdriver that you need to remove from the internal drive you're replacing.

Other than that - you can swap drives in about 90 minutes with the full confidence that this drive will offer more space and be faster. I'm happy with it on mine and my friend is happy that she now has a lot more space to store mp3s and movies.

 "I bought 4 of this HW" 2009-09-24
By G. H. Quach (Chicago, IL)
I bought four of this HD and they work great and very versatile. I used one to replace my MacBook Pro's HD and the installaltion was NO SWEAT, one to replace my PS-3's HD, one to replace my Dell XPS-2010's one of dual drive, and the last one as a backup and moving files among PS3, MacBook, and Dell. I am going to order two more as a mirror image for my Dell and Macbook Pro. I love it!

One negative, why 35GB disappears (465 GB left) after formatting and where does it go?

 "Great Macbook Pro Upgrade" 2009-09-23
By An engineer (California)
I decided to upgrade my MacBook Pro laptop. Why Apple sold such as expensive computer with only a 90 GB hard disk drive is beyond me, but they did. I was a bit worried about my ability to install a replacement OEM drive and whether it would be compatible with a system that used a relatively slow clock speed and a 7200 RPM Hitachi drive initially. But I followed the recommended steps. First, I backed up my computer with an external drive using the Time Machine SW. Then I replaced the drive following one of the YouTube Video explanations (make sure you have the right tiny screwdrives and a T6 driver). The only wrinkle in doing that was getting the tape holding the connectors in place to stick again. The tape can't really be reused, so those internal connectors could detach at some point.

Once I put things back together, I turned the system on with an OS disk in the DVD drive and .... nothing. It didn't recognize the drive. But that turned out to be my ignorance. I had to use the disk utility to partition and format the drive. Then the OS recognized it. I restored my back up and that was that (almost). I did have to reload ITunes for some reason. No big deal. Now I have a top notch 17" laptop with a very capable 500 GB drive instead of a wimpy 90GB drive. The only other glitch was that my 160GB back up drive needed to be replaced. But there are good 1 TB drives out there for not much money, so no big deal.
